The Hendersons Travel Group is offering clients the opportunity to offset the environmental impact of their journeys by means of voluntary contributions.

The contributions are used to fund projects which aim to neutralise or balance the CO2 created by a journey - a process known as "Carbon Offset"

These projects can include: Energy efficiency - reducing the amount of fuel needed Forest restoration - absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere as trees grow Low carbon fuels - developing low-emission technologies such as bio-fuels Alternative energy sources - reducing our dependence on coal and oil

Offsetting a holiday flight to Spain on www.carbonneutral.com costs from £4.26 return while a return flight to Cape Town from Scotland can be offset for £15.62. Contributors receive a certificate. Alternatively www.climatecare.org allows a simple contribution of any value using the "quick offset" button.

Travellers by air already pay the Government's recent "Green" increases in Air Passenger Duty. However, these are not ring-fenced, so there is a question mark over how much of the money will end up helping the environment, while the voluntary contributions suggested go directly into CO2 reducing projects.
