Day 1 Bergen

This journey takes you along the Norwegian coast from Bergen, gateway to the fjords, to Tromsø, capital of Arctic Norway, where you can explore the town and enjoy a range of exciting winter activities.

Your journey begins in Bergen, a harbour town established by the Viking King Olav more than nine hundred years ago. It quickly became the center of Norway's vibrant commercial trade, especially in dried cod with northern Europe and the British Isles.

Bergen is the bustling capital of Norway's fjord district. If you arrive a few hours before the ship's departure, stroll around the old wooden buildings in the Bryggen Wharf, remnants of its Hanseatic past. (D)

 

Day 2 Maloy-Torvik-Alesund-Molde-Kristiansund

After making several brief night time calls along the unspoilt coastline, you will head across to the delightful Art Nouveau town of Ålesund.

After a call at Molde, its magnificent view of the Romsdal Alps made it a favorite vacation spot of Henrik Ibsen. The ship navigates the Hustadvika, a belt of islets and skerries, before docking at Kristiansund. (B,D)

Day 3 Trondheim-Rorvik

Trondheim, Norway’s former capital city and your next major stop where you have time to explore Norway's first capital. Trondhem is a complete contrast with its wooden buildings, brightly painted wharves and warehouses and the 14th centuryNidaros Cathedral.

Walk the charming streets, sit by the peaceful harbour, or cross the old city bridge to see the restored wooden buildings in Bakklandet and the great Gothic Cathedral of Nidaros, where the new kings of old Norway once received their official blessing.

From Trondheim, the ship sails on to Rorvik, where the southbound and northbound coastal ships meet.(B,D)

Day 4 Ornes-Bodo-Stamsund-Svolvær

Later in the day the grandeur of the legendary Lofoten Islands is revealed with their picturesque fishermen's cabins on stilts and weathered wooden racks with drying cod. In the evening, the ship navigates the narrow Raftsund Strait, passing the looming crags of the Trollfjord.

At Svolvær, there is time for an after dinner stroll, perhaps to visit the world’s first Ice Gallery ‘Magic Ice’, which illustrates tantalising tales about the islands and their people and features dramatically lit ice sculptures and music.(B,D)

Day 5 Harstad-Finnsnes-Tromsø

Early morning you will pass the medieval Trondenes church before calling at Harstad for breakfast. Afterwards the ship sails across the Vagsfjord past the great island of Senja with its diverse countryside of farmland, pine trees, and plunging peaks. (B)

Your voyage ends in Tromsø, where you transfer to the airport for your international flights.

Tromsø Extension

Most of our passengers choose to extend their Northern Lights Holiday with a night in Tromsø to increase the chance of seeing the Northern Lights and soak up the city’s captivating atmosphere. After disembarkation you can can optional excursions including dog sledging or an Arctic gourmet dinner then transfer to a hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 6 Tromsø

Time permitting, explore Tromsø's main attractions before you transfer to the airport for your international flight (B).
